Subject: Equipment and supplies
As it turns out, I have about a week to make decisions on major pieces of equipment and supplies. I thought it might be helpful if you surveyed the group as to sources for particular pieces of equipment (see below) as well as suggestions for items they think no conservation lab should be without. Many many thanks. Camera and accessories - Dan Kushel has made the following recommendation: Since olympus not longer makes an OM2, OMPC is suggested ($177) because the OM3 is double the price at $378. Gossin lumar pro ($180) Hand held meter with a studio attachment ($?) for foot candle readings. 50mm macro lens and a 28mm wide angle lens (with focus under 12 inches) Bogan Repro 1713 copy stand ($297) with 1772 lighting assembly ($310). (That was my contribution, and will proviede more info on request.) Suggestions for a good deal/tremendous satisfaction: Small board shears (we already have a 51" vagelli) Map cases Moisture meter Press/plough or job backer (Something about a woman in England) Stereo dissecting type microscope (the kind you use in conservation) help on terminology for this one is also appreciated. Minimal cost at maximum capability (of course). Sharpening stones (pro's and cons of oil vs. water. I've only used oil) Webbing for BYU home made paste strainer (BYU folk ARE on this system) Type and accessories (including cabinets). Also, suggestions as to fonts found to be most appropriate aesthetically pleasing for routine work. Paper cutters (like the Kutrimmer) any reactions? No response will be ignored and ALL responses will be GREATLY appreciated. That deadline rapidly approaches... *** Conservation DistList Instance 1:1 Distributed: Tuesday, May 17, 1988 Message Id: cdl-1-1-022 ***Received on Monday, 13 June, 1988
