Steve,
I would look for libraries that have back issues of RCA Reviews, a
technical publication back when RCA Victor Company was in its hey
days.  Probably had some research done back in the 40's if not 30's.
More likely 40's as by then radio stations were widely using
transcriptions, and tape had not yet been adopted widely.

Of course, Capitol Records and Decca were two other prominent
companies and maybe a Google.com search with the company names and
other key words would find something if it exists reprinted on the
