I have baked only tapes without leader
material.  It is likely there are differences in the leaders vs. the oxide
coated tape.  I would remove them before baking, and use new leaders if
needed, after baking.

We bake at 52 or 53 degrees C.  I do
not know of baking softening any oxide coated material, but then leaders were
often a third party product and may be of different composition.
