One way to solve the access issue is to display the stone tablets
containing the data on the facades of buildings...but then the acid rain
and other pollutants will eat away the stone (ref the substantial damage
done within the last century or so to the facades of English cathedrals)
and that would tend to obliterate the writing in a relatively short period
of time...so we still have to solve the access/preservation issues.  ;)
