RE: [AV Media Matters] Re-Evaluating Tape Mastering Stock

I have another question concerning backcoated tape that I have never
quite pinned down. When tape folds over on itself (cinches) so
that, in a portion of the wrap, the binder on one wrap is facing
(touching)the binder on the adjacent wrap: the result is, sometimes,
total binder-base adhesion failure. This usually happens on tapes
that have been cinched for a long time, have been exposed to some
variations in temperature and don't exhibit binder-base adhesion
failure on portions of the tape where the binder side of one wrap
touches the backcoat side of the adjacent wrap. Anybody got any
ideas why?
