As I understand it, a specific high level of magnetic dosage (what a
wonderful technical term) which will not affect the signal on an adjacent
strand with  a 1.5 mil base may well leave its echo on the same
formula on a
.05 base.

Which is why I always recorded thinner tapes at a slightly lower
level (when
I remembered).  Actually, I haven't used less than l.5 mil on reel-to-reel
in years.  But during the old days...
