I quickly ordered it from our pal Les Gerber's Parnassas thru Amazon and
just got it today. That web page made such a big deal about it being
available ONLY in France, and apparently for good reason. THE BOOKLET
IS ONLY IN FRENCH! Sheeeeeeeeesssshhhh! (or, as Leah just reminded me
le Sheeeeeeeeeeesssshhhh!)
There is a fantastic video on the project's web site that is also only
in French, but all of you have GOT to see it!!!!
http://expositions.bnf.fr/voix/02.htm After apparently discussing that
these discs were hidden down there in the Paris Opera basement by the
Phantom of the Opera, they show the discs being played by engineers in
HAZMAT SUITS !!!!
There's another video that shows a can opener that you will just not
believe!!!! http://expositions.bnf.fr/voix/ouverture/04.htm Then after
they get the can open, check out how they clean the discs. Even the
Disc Doctor will be amazed!!!!!! One of the pieces of glass that
separated each record was broken, AND THEY SPENT THEIR TIME PUTTING
TOGETHER THE SHARDS OF THE PIECE OF GLASS!!!!!!!!!!!! The record was
fine -- they only glued the GLASS PLATE together!!!! AND SAVED A BAGGIE
OF THE LITTLE CHIPS!!!!!! They do all of this with such care, then they
lift out the package of records by only holding it from the top with the
100 year old cloth wrapping strips instead of supporting the package at
the bottom!!! And just wait until you see what are in the two little
tiny packets and how they open them.
These videos are a HOOT!!!!! Especially considering how haphazardly
they hold the records themselves!
Now if I can just find if EMI has uploaded an English language version
of the CD booklet.
