Announcing a Graduate Trainee placement in RTÉ, Ireland's public service broadcaster.

Salary: c. €25,000 p.@

RTÉ Radio is currently offering a Graduate Trainee placement within the Radio Libraries and Archives. The placement will be based in the RTÉ Radio Centre, Dublin, beginning September 2008 and ending August 2009.

The trainee will work under the general supervision of the head of the Sound Archive. The placement will involve the cataloguing of radio programming and will require fast and accurate typing skills. The successful candidate will also be involved with boxing, shelving and moving audio recordings.

Applicants will be planning to pursue a career in libraries or archives. They will be flexible, self-motivated, innovative and able to work well with programme makers, production staff and external clients. The successful candidate will also possess a good knowledge of Irish media, music and the arts.

Applicants must have successfully completed a primary degree in a recognised university. Previous experience of library/archive work is not necessary but will be an advantage. The successful candidate will be offered a place on the graduate professional programme in the UCD School of Information and Library Studies for the following year, subject to satisfactory completion of the trainee year.

This is a unique opportunity to become familiar with the processes and tools relating to audio archiving and restoration in use in RTÉ as well as a chance to develop knowledge of the current state of audiovisual archiving in Ireland.
