As a lad, I operated a large vacuum metalizer, making shiny silvery iciles for a business. - thats over 50 years of technology ago. Nonetheless, I doubt replating a CD could be done effectively. Unless in space, perhaps. But- you never know. There may be sme ultra-thin paint that would serve the same purpose.

That is far from clear. The pits and lands themselves may survive, but they are read by reflection from the vulnerable metallized layer.

That layer doesn't seem to be very vulnerable, except in the few
well-known cases of faulty manufacture.

Some time, somebody will devise a solvent to remove the metal so that a
faulty disc can be replated.
