"Back sell" was another term used in some stations, meaning back announce.
"Intro" as a noun is short for "introduction" and as a verb, for "introduce",
but "extro" and "outro" are going to be debated by linguists coz no matter how
many people claim to have heard or used them for eons, neither one is a real
word. If using "outro" makes you feel good, fine. In my experience, the word
was "extro".
Funny how terms can be localized..putting a voice ID on a tape before beginning
the program, you could "slate" it or "slug" it. And when new equipment went
into some CBC studios in the 80s, the talkback button was labelled with a term
I've never heard or seen used elsewhere.. "FLICK". In upper case, with a very
square font, with letters very close together.

I worked in classical music radio as an announcer in Chicago for 40+ years,
first at WNIB and then after 1972 at WFMT. At both stations we always used
the term "intro," but never "outro." We always said "back announcement."
However, that was just us. Other posters are correct that "outro" was a
term for a back announcement of what had been played. 'Tis just where you are and
the usual usage there, I guess.
