Re: [ARSCLIST] How not to mike an orchestra

Hi, David,

I gave up on the Met Opera broadcast a few weeks ago. It sounded as if all the singers had radio mics for the broadcast.

It's sad.

Happy New Year anyway!

I've just given up on the NY Philharmonic live broadcast (not difficult, since I can't stand Lorin Maazel anyway)..what the hell are they doing, using 50 mikes? Joshua Bell's sniffing was almost as loud as his fiddle playing, and the two bassoonists in the Sorceror's Apprentice could be heard clicking away. Ghastly. If you want a laugh, tune in..this circus goes until ten pm, with an announcer who can't stop talking even when he has nothing to say (and says it 4 times..Martin Bookspan, where are you!).

Horrible. And somebody get Bell an antihistamine.
