Re: [ARSCLIST] Youngest collector?!--was: Folkways Reissues

It all depends on how one defines "collecting". If collecting mentality
qualifies, then it's age 4 for me. I began to feel possessive of the 78s in
our house at that time (that would be in 1948). I wasn't in a position to go
out and buy anything for myself, but I did give suggestions to my parents
occasionally (e.g."Spike Jones Plays Music for Children" -- was "Chloe"
really intended for children? Seems doubtful.). I also had firmly in place
the makings of a collector, because I insisted that if someone played one
side of one of my Little Golden Records, the other side would have to be
played, too, before the first side was replayed. Why? Because I wanted the
groove wear to be equal on each side. How did I ever get that way so early
in life? It wasn't nurture, for sure. My parents didn't follow my rules.

Somehow I turned out OK, despite the early weirdness. Oh, I still have
collecting urges, but now there's medication and support groups for that.
