Add to this the inevitable and unvarying "truth" that electric guitarists are
all driven to play just a little bit louder that the ones who went before them
(see under the "Spinal Tap" idea of "amps that turn up to *11*!"...).

In fact, I lost a fair amount of my hearing by standing next to guitarists
who had their Fender Twins turned up far enough to get the overdriven
distortion they were seeking (either 50 or 100 watts, IIRC...)!
