Re: [ARSCLIST] Fw: WAMU 88.5 to Join Webcasters in "Day of Silence" June 26

Okeh...won't quote here, but do have two comments to make!

1) The reason the AFM is pretty well defunct in the area of live pop
music is simple. If a venue wants to pay the usual four/five-piece
band "union scale" for a standard evening gig, they are looking at
a sum of money well beyond their GROSS for the night...let alone
their net!

About 20 years ago (+/-) my five-piece group was selected to play
a 45-minute set. Since the event was partially sponsored by the
union's local, all the artists were paid "scale." IIRC, I was
given a cheque for about $800 to pass out to the guys!

2) Since concepts like "ethics" and "morality" are totally AWOL in
our XXI Jahrhundert human society (making the so-called "me decade"
of about 20 years ago appear innocent in comparison...!) the reality
is that very few...especially among those decades away from senior-
citizen-hood...folks will pay for what they can easily...well, steal!
There exist a multitude of web sites, blogs, usw. which explain in
"full detail" why music (and, one assumes, food, beer and drugs...?!)
MUST be free! (I'll refrain from commenting in detail here...)
