[ARSCLIST] Professional courtesy: Looking for "The Lake Song"
Folks,
This is one of those requests that might be seen as annoying, so I
apologize in advance. At this point I feel out of options and didn't know
who else to turn to.
I am getting married in a few weeks on property that has been in my
fiancée?s family for some time on Webster Lake (aka Lake
Chargoggagoggmanchaugaggogchabunagugngamug) in Webster, MA. As a part of
the ceremony we plan to have a friend perform a version of a song called
"The Lake Song"--a song about Webster Lake. The difficulty is that we are
having trouble coming up with all the lyrics.
>From what I've been able to determine, the song was written by Will
Heagney, Will Mahoney and Bert Reed, published by Harry Von Tilzer, and
apparently recorded by the Pennsylvanians--or at least performed by them
if they never recorded it.
The Fred Waring Collection at Penn State contains some references to the
song as well as a bit of info about the sheet music, but that's about all
I've been able to turn up.
Based on the spotty memories of my fiancée?s family we've been able to
piece together a partial reconstruction. Our "emergent version" is also
drawn from a streaming video file of the Webster High School Choir
performance here:
http://www.oldewebster.com/video/lakesong.htm
that presents at least part of the song.
I'm appealing to the collective knowledge of list members to see if anyone
knows: 1. The lyrics ; 2. If the song was recorded by the Pennsylvanians ;
3. And if so, some info about the recording that might aid me in tracking
down a copy.
For the record, "The Lake Song" that most people are familiar with is the
one recorded by Ethel Merman--I'm not talking about that one. Hers is a
totally different song, although it does deal with the same lake.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
andy
