Re: [ARSCLIST] Peter Copeland

If someone across the pond can link to an obituary, it would be interesting to read.

I just wanted to add my condolences to from all those that knew Peter even though in my case, it was only through correspondance by way of ARSCLIST. He and I chatted off list a few times about his wanting to find out if he could produce a stereo output from the many sources on recordings made during Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation. I happen to own a three LP set that I bought back then in my youth due to my love of English church music and the pomp and circumstance of many of the British composers who wrote for state and church occasions. So, I'd offered and made CD copies for his experimentation. I was in the process of cleaning them up when he passed away.

He was obviously a brilliant engineer and academician full of knowledge which he shared willingly even with laymen such as myself.

He is missed.

All

We will all be saddened by the news that Peter Copeland passed away at
his London home last weekend following a diabetic-related illness. He
died either late on Saturday night, 29 August or in the small hours of
Sunday 30 August.

Peter was Conservation Manager at the British Library National Sound
Archive (now the British Library Sound Archive) for 15 years until his
retirement four years ago. His contribution to our work, steering us
through the uncertainties of the digital revolution, is his lasting
legacy, and many of us will remember his complete devotion to his work,
and the manful way in which he dealt with the constant challenge of his
diabetes.

May he rest in peace.
