Re: [ARSCLIST] Classical Radio, was [ARSCLIST] Mercury co-founder Irving Green passes

I have only bought one of these UK RCAs,the Kempe "Alpine",which is quite Decca-like,but I have some a couple of original UK/German-issued Jefferson Airplanes, which are a world of improvement, over the US issues.Same with the ones from the early 70s like The Globetrotters Lp
However, there was one good thing to come out of this show. In 1970, DON KIRSHNER, the man behind THE ARCHIES and THE MONKEES, supervised (with Jeff Barry) a record album called "THE GLOBETROTTERS", showing the HG's cartoon likenesses on the cover. The only Globbie who sang on the album was MEADOWLARK LEMON, but the other singers included former members of THE COASTERS ("Charlie Brown", "Yakety Yak"), THE PLATTERS ("Only You", "The Great Pretender") THE DRIFTERS ("Under the Boardwalk", "Save The Last Dance For Me") and THE CADILLACS ("Speedo"), all classic Doo-Wop groups of the 1950s! Commercially, the album didn't do well, but it has since become a pretty big collector's item. I don't have my own copy (yet), but have heard several songs: "ESP", "Gravy", "Cheer Me Up", "Everybody's Got Hot Pants", etc. It's kind of like a cross between THE COASTERS, '40s' jive king Louis Jordan ("Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens", "Caledonia," Choo Choo Ch'Boogie") and early '70's Funk.
One song, "Rainy Day Bells", actually has a cult following among East Coast Doo-Wop freaks.

http://www.jumptheshark.org/h/harlemglobetrotters.htm ,the early Grunt Lps,and Lou Reed, are a delight to listen to,on the UK/German pressings.
But like the tapes, you will never hear these on most radio stations.BTW,the Colgems Monkees are easily the equal of the beloved "Casino Royale".Especially "Pisces,Aquarius","The Birds...",and of course "Head".

  Roger,
I've found lots of the poorly produced post-1965 classical records sound
very good on the contemporary R2R tapes (not the record club issues).
They're a gamble, but some of the RCAs and Columbia R2R sound exponentially
better than the vinyl. The Dynagroove process was added at vinyl mastering.
The very weird EQ of the Columbia classical LPs are not present on the
tapes. Even better are the CD reissues (sadly too few). What was really
and ear-opener was finding a couple British Dynagrooves. Well, they sound
nothing like the American pressings. Several sound fabulous, the equal to
the "golden age" stuff. The Brits just cued up the tape and mastered the
record. NO special EQ or pre-distortion.
