Re: [ARSCLIST] Tis a strange world
If I recall correctly,EMI got into Lps,in 1950 (A year after Decca/Telefunken,did in the UK.),and stereo in '56.(Were the von Karajan "Pictures",and the Starker concerti their first ?)After reading a little more,on thier history,at the time,I wonder if it wasn't a big mistake, when, they severed thier ties with RCA,in 1957. As for pop, they got into stereo pretty early,at least as far as the recording, but not the commercial records is concerned. The second Cliff Richard Lp "Listen to Cliff",was recorded in stereo, and issued in a number of countries,in stereo,at the time, including the USA,where it came out on the ABC-Paramount label, but not in the UK,for some inexplicable reason.
But now that I think of it,they did the same with classical, for some reason. Many of you are aware,of the Guido Cantelli/Philharmonias,that came out in stereo, only on the US Angels.EMI was really screwed up there for a while.

Been reading about the Beatles, and accoring to Geoff Emerick and
George Martin, EMI have always been behind the curve - slow to go to
Lps, late going stereo, slow to get multitrack, and might have sunk if
not for the Beatles... not surprising they are behind the newest again.
