Position Available: Executive Director, Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Executive Director will provide dynamic institutional and community leadership for an organization poised for its next stage of growth and will guide the institution through refinement in its mission. 

The person selected will be an energetic and experienced leader and will inspire and advocate for all institutional activities and programs in support of the mission. The position requires thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of administering and supervising historic resources and tourism programs, excellent written and oral communication skills, extensive-- 10 years of progressively responsible experience in historic program administration, development, preservation, research and/or historic property administration, collection management, archival collections, exhibition development, and tourism promotion in an historic area. 

Completion of advanced college level courses in historic preservation, museum studies, American History with emphasis on 19th century. Must have the skills and capability to work effectively with an active board of trustees and staff of 12. Must possess an effective management style and be able to implement the use of goals and objectives with specific timelines. Must have high degree of public relations skills as well as experience in fund raising and grant administration. 

The Fort Lauderdale Historical Society is the nonprofit educational organizational responsible for the restoration, preservation and interpretation of Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum. Old Fort Lauderdale consists of a history museum at the New River Inn; the King-Cromartie House, ca. 1907; the Philemon Bryan House, containing the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society's Administrative Offices; the 1899 Replica School House; and the Hoch Heritage Center, housing extensive archival and photographic collections. There are 9 full time staff members, 3 part time, 20 member board of trustees, stable and dedicated group of volunteers. Annual operating budget is $680,000.

Major duties and responsibilities: Oversee the fiscal and personnel management of the institution; develop annual budget; set and meet annual fundraising goals, oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations; attract private, public and foundation support, direct and engage a professional staff team and volunteers. Reports to the President, of the Board of Trustees.

Person selected must be dynamic, high energy, mission driven, goal oriented with ability to effectively lead the institution with vision and creativity. Proven fund-raising experience to include grantsmanship and revenue production. Long term and short term planning capabilities, and the completion of projects in a timely basis are especially critical to this institution.
