Literary/Metadata Specialist
Audio Archives Project
92nd Street Y, New York, NY
(Grant-funded, 18-month position, 25 hours per week)

Reporting to the Director of the Audio Archives Project, the
Literary/Metadata Specialist will be responsible for the research and
input of metadata for the audio and video media sections of the 92nd
Street Y Events Database. Responsibilities include cataloging recordings
and creating descriptive metadata, and assisting the Audio Archivist in
digitizing recordings. The Literary/Metadata Specialist will also be
part of the team that implements the migration of the Events Database
from Microsoft Access to a more robust SQL platform.

Responsibilities:
* Implement appropriate metadata standards for all audio and video
recordings.
* Create detailed descriptive, structural, and administrative metadata
for recordings.
* Research descriptive metadata.
* Input metadata into the database.
* Digitize recordings as necessary, according to project standards.
* Assist in the production of access copies of audio and video files.
* Participate in the development and implementation of a new SQL
database.

Qualifications:
* BA or BS required. Graduate degree in literature, library science, or
related field desirable.
* Knowledge and love of contemporary poetry and literature desirable.
* Knowledge of metadata standards.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and SQL.
* Knowledge of the recommended practices and standards for the
digitization and cataloging of archival audio and video recordings.
* Familiarity with a wide variety of analog and digital audio and video
formats.
* Familiarity with Pro Tools or other audio editing software desirable.
* Previous experience working with archival audio or video collections.
