TV has eliminated much of the regional accents in America. Those that are left are not near as pronounced as they were years ago. As for the more refined speech I think the loss of that is due to the fact that most people speak faster today than they used to jamming words together until a sentence becomes just one word. Jack

Also, it's fascinating to hear the actual
voices of both historic figures and ordinary people of those days. To my
ears, the regional accents of America were more pronounced back then, and
the average person had a more refined and clearer way of speaking.

If someone has a pile of transcriptions of these shows lying around
somewhere, let's talk about getting them digitized. I can and will help.
