One un-mentioned advantage of half-speed (or less) digital copying of 78s
is that pops and clicks, which are generally of very fast rise time, will
now be effectively another octave above the music information. I suspect
this would make those pops and clicks easier to detect and smooth or
eliminate, with less effect on music information.

The opposite would be true of rumble, of course, if it is being generated
by the playback turntable. The music information will have descended into
the rumble, unless the rumble is entirely dependent on turntable speed,
which is unlikely.
