POSITION:  UNIVERSITY ARCHIVIST -Job # SL508848

DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The University of Kentucky seeks an
archivist to administer the University Archives and Records Program
(UARP) including accessioning, appraisal, processing, reference, the
maintenance and development of records retention schedules, and outreach
activities.  Reporting to the Director of Archives within the Special
Collections and Digital Programs Division, this position has oversight
for the university-wide records management program, for records of all
formats, in accordance with state law, guidelines and best professional
practices.  The person in this position promotes UARP within the
University and throughout the state, including the presentation of
informational sessions to university faculty, staff and administrators.
Responsibilities include establishing policy and procedure based on
current archival standards and best practices, developing funding
opportunities for UARP activities, exploring digital initiatives and
managing UARP's website.  This person also provides specialized
reference services within UARP and supervises two regular full-time
staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:  Graduate degree in library science (ALA-accredited program),
archival administration, information management, or other relevant
field.  Experience with archival administration and institutional
records management.  Familiarity with records analysis, archival
accessioning, collection processing, electronic records management
practices, retention scheduling, and related issues. Effective written
and oral communication skills.  Demonstrable computer and information
technology skills.  Commitment to ongoing professional development and
activity.  

Desired:  Strong background working with electronic records. Direct
involvement with database and web site creation and maintenance.
Experience working in a university or college archives environment.
Supervisory experience.  Evidence of ability to work well with staff,
faculty, administrators, records liaisons, and donors.

SALARY & BENEFITS:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience.  Tenure track, faculty rank, 12 month appointment, 22 days
annual leave, TIAA/CREF, Fidelity, and Twentieth Century Annuity plans.

LIBRARY:  Located in the beautiful bluegrass region of central Kentucky,
the University of Kentucky Libraries system includes the main William T.
Young Library, Medical Center Library, Law Library, Special Collections
& Digital Programs, Agricultural Information Center, Little Fine Arts
Library, Architecture Library, Education Library, Engineering Library
and five science libraries.  Combined holdings total more than 3 million
volumes.  The system has a staff of 80 librarians and 109 support staff
and serves a student body of 28,000.  The UK Libraries use the Voyager
integrated library system.  Library membership includes ARL, SOLINET,
ASERL, and the Center for Research Libraries, and is a regional
depository for government publications.
