[ARSCLIST] Position vacancies for the Library of Congress NAVCC
The Library of Congress Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound
Division is seeking to hire four Library Technicians to process the
division's audiovisual collections. Two of the positions will work in
the division's Recorded Sound Section and two in the Moving Image
Section. The positions will be permanently located in Culpeper,
Virginia, at the Library's new National AudioVisual Conservation Center;
the first phase of the NAVCC - the Collections Building - is opening

MAJOR DUTIES:
Incumbent receives/accessions, sorts, and arranges various moving
image
material following established procedures, guidelines, and standards of
the
Division. Prepares materials for use/storage. Such preparation
includes, but
is not limited to, performing basic preservation and phased
conservation
tasks, filing, housing, labeling, and shelving the material. Inputs
information in manual/automated systems for inventories, container
lists,
shelflist, or other kinds of finding aids using box/folder information,
series
titles, and other data compiled during processing and/or provided by a
librarian, cataloger, curator, specialist, or supervisor. Prepares
manual/automated preliminary access/inventory records for single items
or
collections following the established procedures of the Division.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
FOR GS-5 LEVEL:
A. Have at least six months of specialized experience at the GS-4 level
in
the Federal service, or at a comparable level of difficulty outside
the
Federal service, sorting, arranging, shelving and retrieving library
material.
OR
B. Have completed at least four years (120 semester/180 quarter hours)
of
education above high school; or have completed at least 20 hours of
classroom
instruction per week for approximately 144 weeks in a business or
technical
school.
OR
C. Have an equivalent combination of education and experience when
combined is equal to at least 6 months of related specialized
experience at
the appropriate level.
FOR GS-6 LEVEL:
Have at least six months of related specialized experience, equivalent
to
the GS-5 level in the Federal service or at a comparable level of
difficulty
outside the Federal service, performing duties such as
receiving/accessioning,
sorting, arranging, and recording information about moving
image/recorded
sound materials following established procedures, guidelines, and
standards.
FOR GS-7 LEVEL:
Have at least six months of related specialized experience, equivalent
to
the GS-6 level in the Federal service or at a comparable level of
difficulty
outside the Federal service, performing duties such as
receiving/accessioning,
sorting, arranging, and recording information about moving image and
recorded
sound materials following established procedures, guidelines, and
standards.
FOR GS-8 LEVEL:
Have at least six months of related specialized experience, equivalent
to the
GS-7 level in the Federal service or at a comparable level of
difficulty
outside the Federal service, performing duties such as
receiving/accessioning,
sorting, arranging, and recording information about moving image and
recorded
sound materials following established procedures, guidelines, and
standards,
performing complex collections maintenance, organizing and preparing
complex
material for reformatting, training and technically reviewing the work
of
junior processing technicians.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following KSAs have been
identified as being important to the performance of this position at
the
GS-5/6/7/8 grade levels. The percentages in parenthesis indicate the
relative
importance of each KSA to this position.
1. Knowledge of basic collections maintenance (e.g. moving image
recorded
sound). (40%)
2. Ability to use an alpha or numeric filing system. (20%)
3. Ability to operate an automated database. (20%)
4. Skill in oral and written communications. (20%)
