Yes, of course...it's a simple technology. Let's say that we can get 8 characters per inch, and they are full 8-bit characters. That means that we need to create a bit over 1800 feet per second for CD quality! Or, our 40-minute CD would take up about 835 miles of paper tape.
Digital only works because of high data densities. That's why the CD happened 650MB on a little disc the size of a 360kB floppy disc! High storage density was the enabling technology for digital audio.

It would seem as though a way to achieve this would be to use the paper tape that was is used in the early computer days, not individual sheets of paper. The paper could then be created with archival paper specifications.
