Re: [ARSCLIST] CD-R/DVD-R burners

Hello, Brandon,

That was how I read your post, actually. My current main audio computer has
only the 708A in it as a writer (and a nice DVD reader that came with it
from Dell).

My former main audio computer and general office/graphics workstation has
both the 708A and a Plextor Premium CD Writer in it. Both do the task well.
My OLD audio computer has a SCSI Plextor CD writer as well as an IDE
Plextor CD writer and I used those without complaint for many years.

I don't know about the faster DVD writers on Plextor's site. I didn't
research them in depth, but the 708A is being kept around for some reason
-- and it's the most expensive of the lot (not factoring rebates).

With the relatively small incremental difference in price, I might consider
a USB/FireWire burner rather than a built-in one. I've gone to FireWire
drives on my Network Attached storage and am converting most peripherals to
USB or FireWire. Note that some of the new DVD writers are available as
optical SATA.

Cheers,

Richard

Sorry folks,

I was in the middle of a meeting (about said burner) when I sent my original
post. I meant to say a "CD-RW/DVD-RW" burner instead. This workstation
will primarily handle audio but my colleague needs the ability to burn
non-proprietary DVD-Rs. The primary concern was whether or not DVD-RW
burners compromise audio in any way.

Thanks again,

Brandon

Hi, Brandon,

I've had good luck with Plextor 708A drives. They have newer ones that are
less expensive.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Richard

Greetings,

I am in the middle of an order and need to equip my DAW with a
DVD-RW/DVD-RW
burner that will handle both media respectibly. My experince is with audio
so I could some suggestions from folks who have had luck with such a
burner.
I am on the Windows platform, by the way.

Thanks in advance,
