No, not all stand alones require Music CD-Rs: consumer models do, such as the
Philips.  Professional models from Tascam, Sony, Marantz and others do not
require Music CD-R.

2)
They burn at 1X from analog or real-time signal input.  Many stand alones are
two-well duplicators and will copy disc to disc at up to 4X.
