Technically, a "pirate" is a reissue of an already-extant recording. A
"bootleg"
is an illicitly-recorded version of a musical performance which was, in
general,
not otherwise recorded (except by other "bootleggers"). The first violates
the
copyright of the original recording...the second doesn't violate copyright,
but will violate any number of the artist's contract provisions as well as
other considerations, such as whether a given performance should have been
made available to the public...
