[ARSCLIST] MLA Annual Meeting

The Music Library Association (MLA) will hold its 73nd Annual Meeting at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, February 11-15, 2004. The Program and Local Arrangements Committees take full advantage of the rich resources of the Washington D.C. area. The opening plenary session, titled "Music at the Library of Congress," will include three presentations: "Rare and Traditional Music from the American Folklife Center's Archive" by Peggy A. Bulger, Director, American Folklife Center, The Library of Congress; "The National Audio Visual Conservation Center" by Gregory Lukow, Chief, Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division, The Library of Congress; and "I hear America Singing" by Jon Newsom, Chief, Music Division, The Library of Congress and Karen Lund, Digital Project Coordinator, The Library of Congress. The second plenary session is titled "Librarians Lobbying Capitol Hill."

The MLA Local Arrangements Committee, host of the 73nd Annual Meeting, will be offering tours of the Library of Congress' Music Division, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Folkways Recording Offices. The Local Arrangements Committee Concert will be held at the Library of Congress' Coolidge Auditorium. The concert will feature performances of music held in the special collections of the library's Music Division. The traditional MLA Organ Crawl will be offered as well.

As part of the conference, MLA's Education Committee and Subject Access Subcommittee are sponsoring a workshop on Library of Congress Subject Headings. The workshop is designed to be of interest to music librarians in all specialties: catalogers, reference librarians and other music staff who are end-users of the catalog.
