[ARSCLIST] 21st Century Discographies

Dear friends:

I'd like to kick off a discussion of the content of published discographies
these days. Specifically, given the ubiquity of optical storage (CD ROM at
the least, and increasingly, DVD ROM) and web access at every library and
most end-users, what could and should be included?

Examples might include:

1) Thumbnails of cover art.

2) Songs (if in the public domain) or song samples (where songs are
not in the PD and unavailable.)

3) A Union Catalog of rare items, with the author of the discography
serving as an intermediary between collectors and interested parties where
necessary to preserve confidence.

4) Other?

For the moment, please don't let rights issues (in the cover artwork and
the music itself) restrict your thinking.

Thanks in advance.

Joel
