[ARSCLIST] DC ARSC Folk

Mark your calendars for the following event:

Blues with a Feeling: The Little Walter Story

Ward Gaines, a resident of Takoma Park, Md, is one of three co-authors
of Blues with a Feeling: The Little Walter Story published by Routledge
in September 2002, which won the most recent ARSC award for the best
researched book in blues and gospel music. Little Walter (born Marion
Walter Jacobs in 1930) was arguably the finest Chicago-style blues
harmonica player of all time. Learning from such greats as Sonny Boy
Williamson and Walter Horton, he rose to superstar status as sideman to
blues giant Muddy Waters. Jacobs also pushed the lowly harmonica to a
place of prominence as an expressive, powerful electrified lead
instrument. His recordings for Chess and Checker are among the best
Chicago blues recordings of the 1950s. Gaines will illustrated his talk
with musical examples as well as rare video footage of Little Walter
from the 1960s.
