Re: [ARSCLIST] First recording of String Bass

I know this goes way back in the list, but I just picked up a really hot record by Paul Ash and his Orch which features a great string bass solo: Columbia 1531-D, Paul Ash AHO, 8-22-28, "Out of the Dawn".  Rust lists no string bass on this side.  In fact, the other side,"Ten Little Miles from Home" (same date) has a brass bass (tuba?) and no string bass.  Both sides recorded very loud...and hot!  It's a keeper.

Wasn't Goldkette's bassist one of the first to use that instrument on record, as well as probably the first to record
a solo on it? As I understand it many jazz and dance bands used the string bass on stage, but not for recording,
since it wasn't picked up as well...?
