In the 18th century, a great deal of effort went into preserving in
print the sermons of various eminent divines. Nobody now would even open
these books.

However, just as the Dead Sea Scrolls have offered up some new
enlightenment, I'm sure those sermons would make an excellent study of the
thinking of that day on things theological, and biblical. Some ministers
might even take advantage of such a cache for their own pontifications.
