I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, one key issue is determining when to capture the source given not only the cost of doing so but the damage done in most cases. In the case of the Maplesons, should Seltsam not have done his selective transfer given that any subsequent playing was significantly damaged by his effort?

It is all but inevitable that capturing an analogue source will damage it
to some extent. Certainly, there is risk of accident whenever it is
handled. I do not envy the decision-maker who says: capture now just before
a better methodology appears.
