[ARSCLIST] Country Music Conference Announcement

For those interested, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is hosting a free country music conference entitled Hillbilly Sources and Symbols: Country Music, Cultural Brokerage and O Brother, Where Art Thou? this April 5, 2003.

The conference has been organized to celebrate the publication of Country Music
Sources: A Biblio-Discography of Commercially Recorded Traditional Music
(SFC/JEMF, 2002) by Guthrie Meade, Dick Spottswood, and Douglas Meade.
Distinguished speakers and panelists will explore the resurgence of interest in
traditional music and its representation through popular culture. Benjamin Filene, author of
Romancing the Folk: Public Memory & American Roots Music (University of North
Carolina Press, 2000) will be the conference's keynote speaker.

The conference is free, but registration is required (as space is limited). There is
also an optional BBQ afterward. More info is available at:
