Hi,

What is the verdict on the paper with plastic window envelopes for CDs, when
it comes to conservation? Water-based permanent inks are safe; I imagine the
plastic jewel boxes are inert; the envelopes I've seen don't state their
being acid-free. What is the research on this?

Paper is a poor choice; Tyvek is highly recommended. The paper envelopes will have fragments of wood which scratch the disc surface. That information from a company analyzing a disc I submitted; my own guess is that the paper used may contain acid and that that, too, may have long-term implications.
