Re: arsclist cellophane plastic

Even after taking off the shrink wrap, you may find there is a slight warp at the edge of the recording disc at a single point. This was often due to the thumb and finger grip used by the person at the press to remove the disc while it was still warm. It showed up on many recordings using less vinyl (or shaped platter with heavy edge, presumably to keep grooves off the turntable surface,) in the late 50s early 60s, when RCA and others still used mechanical presses. ARSC conference attendees toured one of these plants (New Jersey?) in the 60's or early 70's.

| Dear List,
|
| We have received a few 12" LP recordings
| in their original cellophane wrappers, so we
| want to know if leaving the original wrapping
| on will warp or damage the records.
|
| (We have also received a few software packages
| in their original plastic wrapping as part of the
| same collection--is there one answer for both
| questions?)
