RE: arsclist cleaning machines

Decontamination is a very tricky business - particularly with mold which is classified as a lung irritant. If you did not take any precautions before you played the tapes you will now have the high concentrations of mold all over the place - particularly if you used ff or rewind. Depending on the machine it could really be distributed inside the transport. Depending on how bad it is I would recommend different procedures. Unless these are very valuable machines, it may be better to start with new machines and toss the old. If these are studers or something very valuable, you will have to put them in a different environment, use vacuum systems (high power) to try to remove the mold, alcohol, respirators and gloves for the people doing the work.;....... it is a project....

Could you post your responses to the list?  I think we'd all like to know.

Does anyone have a suggestion on where to send a reel-to-reel tape deck and a stand-alone CD burner cleaned. Both have been used with moldy tapes, and before moving them into a clean environment we want to be sure about cleaning them thoroughly. We are a little uncertain doing this ourselves, and think it makes more sense to send them out to professionals. Any suggestions?

Thanks
