Inquiry: know-how about digital preservation archiving
It seems in my rush to get the original message out, I created a
misunderstanding under this subject heading on May 15th. Dr. Gladney's note
that was part of the original message was correct, my summary at the top
took too many shortcuts.
Specifically, Dr. Gladney was not asked for anything by the Library of
Congress, and
is not an agent of the Library. The request came from the Council of
Library Resources member of an advisory committee, and the report is for
the advisory committee, which might use whatever we can dredge up to speed
its process. The committee is itself not a branch of the Library, but
rather a group of external experts serving pro bono, and therefore neither
an agent of nor a decision maker for the Library.
I apologize for any misunderstanding that I may have caused. Remember, the
deadline is June 8th.
Regards,
Richard
