¹⁹ Ideally, a true Latin American library and archives conservation program would include courses, if not a degree, in library science in addition to hands-on laboratory work. A number of years ago, the Pan American Union compiled their recommendations on the standard bachelor's and master's library science curricula: the Committee encourages offering a course on the "pathology of the book" and requires one on the history of the book and printing .
