AUTHOR INFORMATION

DEBRA F. LAEFER earned her Ph.D. in civil engineering in 2001 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, after attaining a B.A. in art history from Columbia University in 1991. She serves as the chair of the Heritage and Existing Structures Committee for the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. She is an assistant professor of civil engineering at University College Dublin in Ireland and has been working in historic preservation since 1988.
