MANET'S LOST INFANTA

ALBERT BOIME, & ALEXANDER KOSSOLAPOV

ABSTRACT—The scientific examination of the privately owned painting (fragment/copy after Velzquez's Infanta Maria Margarita from the Louvre collection) has been completed. Based on documented historical evidence, stylistic and chemical analysis of paints, and individual technical features revealed by x-ray radiography and infrared photography (IR), the painting has been attributed to the French painter douard Manet and dated from the beginning of the 1860s.
