CATHLEEN HOENIGER is assistant professor of art history at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where she teaches the history and techniques of Italian Renaissance art. She received an M.A. in the history of science from the University of Toronto in 1983 and an M.F.A. (1986) and Ph.D. (1989) in art and archaeology from Princeton University; she wrote her Ph.D. dissertation on the painting technique of Simone Martini. Her current research areas include the technique and aesthetic of Sienese Gothic painting and the history and theory of restoration.
