Interspirit, James T. Russell, 1983
Some sculptures, like this one, are called abstract. Abstract means the sculpture isn't of anything. It's not a sculpture of a person, or an animal or a thing, but simply a shape. Abstract sculptures can be warped circles, wobbly squares, or even shapes that don't have names. This artist, James Russell, made the surface very shiny, almost like a piece of jewelry or a mirror. Sometimes abstract sculptures remind us of other things or express emotions. What does this sculpture remind you of? How does it make you feel?
