Emma Hart Willard is accompanied by a long line of strong women leaders in the State of
New York, such as Susan B. Anthony, a key leader in the women's suffrage movement;
Eizabeth Blackwell, the first female medical doctor; Edith Wharton, a
Pulitzer-prize-winning novelist; Eleanor Roosevelt, first lady and United Nations
representative; actress Lucille Ball of "I Love Lucy;" and First Lady turned
U.S. Senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Emma established the Troy Female Seminary, one of the first serious institutions for the education of women in the United States, and traveled around the country to promote women's education.
