Ole Bull by Jacob Fjelde, 1896
This was the first public outdoor sculpture in Minnesota, made in 1896. This statue was made before the invention of airplanes, computers, or television!

Ole Bull was a world-famous Norwegian musician who toured around the Midwest giving concerts. Here he is shown with his violin. Which of the following instruments are in the same musical family as the violin: clarinet, oboe, flute, guitar, trumpet, harp, symbol, cello?*

In 2000, Ole Bull was professionally cleaned, or conserved. Compare the two photographs. One was taken before conservation and one after. What differences can you see between the two pictures? Check for broken strings on the violin.

* Did you guess the guitar, harp, or cello?
