Muncie
George McCulloch, Leonard Crunelle, 1915
George McCulloch is considered Muncie's first citizen. He was a business man, newspaper publisher, politician, and a philanthropist. A philanthropist is a person who promotes the well-being of humankind through an activity or institution. In other words, they try to make life better for other people. Can you name two more philanthropists from the history of this country? Or your town?
Recently, the sculpture was conserved. In this photo, only one half of the face had been cleaned. Can you guess which side? The right side of the photo is the side that has been cleaned. That's how much dirt and pollution affected the surface of this statue!
