Ethics of alteration

• The notion of alteration is usually applied to restoration, but should be applied to preservation transfers in general
• There is no such thing as a transparent copy
• The use of circuitry unlike the circuitry used to create the original leaves some trace (though "unobservable") on the signal
• Even digital has some infinitesimal loss from noise in the line
