John Burke is currently Chief Conservator for the Oakland Museum of California, a multidisciplinary museum with extensive collections of art, history and natural sciences, and Faculty Professor at John F. Kennedy University where he teaches a graduate course in Preventive Conservation. He has been active in the field of conservation for over 28 years, serving as Director of Specialty Groups and Director for Professional Education on the Board of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC), Board Member (Webmaster) for the AIC Electronic Media Specialty Group (EMG), President of the Bay Area Art Conservation Guild, At-large Board Member for the Western Association for Art Conservation, and member of the Education and Training Committee of the AIC. He has received grant awards from Heritage Preservation (1998-2000), the Institute for Museum Services and IMLS (1987-98), the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (1999), the National Endowment for the Arts (1992-93), the National Endowment for the Humanities (1992-94), the National Institute for Conservation (1997-98), the Organization of American States (1996), and UNESCO (1994, 1997). |
